Donations, Grants and Contributions to environment and local community

During 2010, Bank al Etihad supported and participated in several activities aimed at local community development. Such support stems from the Bank's commitment to its corporate social responsibility strategy, which highlights the need to interact with the local community and support it financially and morally.

The bank was keen on emphasizing its humanitarian role and social responsibility through donations to several non-for-profit organizations and charities to help them sustain their projects and implement their community service strategies. Foremost of these organizations were: Jordan River Foundation, Al Hussein Cancer Center, Children Museum, Madrasati Initiative, Injaz Program, which secures job opportunities for youth, Jubilee School, Ahliya School for Girls, Al-Aman Fund for Orphans, Dar Al Ber Center, Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, World Food Program and several other charities that take care of the deaf, the blind, orphans and people with special needs.

On the other hand, the bank did not ignore the need to support other vital sectors. In the art and music field, support was extended to Jordan Festival, along with a number of activities held by the National Music Conservatory, Jordan Artists Association and local troupes and theatrical companies that held concerts and performed plays and poetry recital functions.

For the Education sector, Bank al Etihad partnered with the Children's Museum in launching A'yaduna (our feasts) program. The following schools also received support: Baccalaureate School, Ahliya School for Girls, Jubliee School and others. 

At the cultural and sports level, the major activities supported by the bank included sponsoring Jordan Intercontinental terrace where football fans met to watch World Cup 2010 games. The bank also supported the International Refereeing Forum, intellectual property, Al-Hassan Award for Youth and the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development.

Regarding economic activities, support went to the Electrical Capacity Quality Conference and the 6th Conference of Expatriate Jordanian Businessmen and Investors.

The bank extended support to other projects and initiative, including the ceremony held by the Canadian Embassy in Amman to celebrate the launch of Jordan-Canada FTA, along with the regional business forum held by the Jordan-American Society, among other activities organized by embassies in Amman.

Facts:

  • Vision Institute for Civil Society Studies’ report: 44 % of banks and 69% of Jordanian banks executed socially responsible initiatives in the 2nd half of 2010.
  • The most recent number published by the Central Bank of Jordan highlighting banks’ CSR expenditures in Jordan is JD35 million over the past period.
  • Al Urdun Al Jadid Research Center: 71% of Jordanian companies understood CSR as “complying with the existing laws”, while 57% comprehended it as “providing employee benefits”.
