Bank al Etihad was established in 1978 and has successfully evolved into one of the fastest growing banks in the Jordanian banking sector today, with a paid up capital of JOD 100,000,000 and a capital base in excess of JD 235 million and a capital adequacy ratio of 18.75 %.

The bank currently operates a network of 24 branches and 3 exchange centers distributed throughout Jordan in addition to one branch in Ramallah, Palestine. Bank al Etihad has a fully owned brokerage firm, and operates one of the best money exchange operations in the Jordanian Market. By mid-2012 the number of branches is expected to increase and become 32 Branches.

Through the years, Bank al Etihad managed to achieve very good organic, steady & sustainable growth, and financed a number of vital and infrastructure projects that hold long term benefits to the country and its citizens in sectors such as electricity, energy, renewable energy, higher education, tourism, water desalination and water treatment.

While growing, the bank managed to keep its unique identity and built in that identity and DNA in its corporate social responsibility supporting culture, education, youth and childhood. The bank is  a major sponsor to INJAZ youth employment , Madrasati, Children Museum, Queen Noor music conservatory, Jordan Festival for art and culture, Jubilee school, Yarmouk University student scholarships, Al-Aman Fund for the Future of the Orphans scholarships , King Hussein Cancer foundation , the bank also avails it’s in-house auditorium for any musical or cultural activities for free.

In 2007 Bank al Etihad engaged Mckinsey & Co one of the world most reputable banking consultants to work with the bank to develop the strategic direction for the bank growth building on the bank traditional strength and edge in Corporate Banking while expanding in some selected Retail segments and in SME.

Ever since the bank has been going through continuous development, enhancing its institutional capacity and governance; today the bank is run by a dedicated team of young and ambitious professionals, a new core banking system “Oracle Flex Cube “one of the best systems worldwide wasimplemented at the bank in 2011, a rebranding campaign that came up with a unique corporate identity along with a new branch experience were also launched around the same period last year.
